Legal & Responsible App Use in India
The national position changed. Older pages that describe only state-by-state rummy restrictions are no longer enough.
01 / Current framework
Online money games are prohibited nationally
India's Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 prohibits the offering, operation, facilitation, advertising, promotion and participation in online money games. The framework covers games of chance, games of skill and combinations of both when money or stakes are involved.
The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2026 took effect on 1 May 2026 and support the national framework, including the Online Gaming Authority of India.

Social games and e-sports are separate categories
A free or social game is not automatically an online money game. The exact mode matters: check whether a user pays a stake, deposits funds or expects money or monetary value in return. App branding alone cannot answer that question.
03 / Personal safeguards
Keep play non-financial and controlled
- Do not deposit money or pay a fee in expectation of winnings.
- Do not borrow, chase losses or trust guaranteed-return systems.
- Use device-level time limits and take regular breaks.
- Never share an OTP, UPI PIN, card PIN or banking password.
- Remove an app that pressures you to pay, recruit others or unlock a withdrawal.
